TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return)

I have fed feral/community cats for years. I have always been self-funded and have never worked with donations. Today I will be asking for your support thru a Non-Profit to help with Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) for cats.

I find very few cats are spayed or neutered. I have seen cat colonies that continue to grow with new kittens being born and other times new cats or kittens show up or are dumped in the area. Some of these cats or kittens may be suffering from injuries, broken legs. sickness, starvation, worms and even cancer and need medical treatment. I have run into unexpected challenges at times in trying to help some of these cats and kittens.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) will help reduce the number of fertile cats or the breeding population, as well as prevent inbred disease and save their lives. (TNR) is the only humane and effective approach to community cats, or unowned cats who live outdoors. The TNR process is simple: community cats are humanely trapped, taken to a veterinary clinic to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped. Ear-tipping is the universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered through a TNR program, then returned to the outdoor homes to which they are bonded so they can live out their lives where they thrive. It is also best practice to MICROCHIP community cats during the TNR process and register the microchip with the information of the cats’ caregiver or the group that carried out TNR. Then, should a cat be picked up by animal control or impounded in a shelter and scanned for a microchip, the relevant people can be informed that the cat is at home outdoors, is spayed or neutered, and should be returned immediately. Also be able to find the adoptable cats and kittens their FUR-EVER homes. TNR (TRAP-NEUTER-RELEASE) WORKS!

Before April 2024, I did not have access to low-cost TNR through the local Humane Society, Animal Control and other non-profits that work with helping cats. These agencies or non-profits pay an average of $40 to $55 to help spay or neuter a cat. At times, vet bills have run into the thousands and I have paid with personal funds for the additional vet fees to cover the extra medical treatment they need.

In order to make TNR successful it takes volunteers, a lot of work, supplies and money. Cats have to be trapped, cared for before surgery, safely transported in traps using personal vehicles to and from the clinic, and cared for during recovery 24 to 48 hours,
